Vehicle data is configuration-dependent

The physical interface does not guarantee that every ECU channel is available. The correct AiM protocol/ECU definition and cable must match the car. Expected channels can include RPM and throttle, but the exact list and update behaviour are ECU-dependent. Do not infer brake pressure, steering angle or temperatures unless the vehicle actually broadcasts them and AiM decodes them.

CAN is not the same as OBD-II.

CAN describes a network/interface. OBD-II is a diagnostic standard that may run over CAN and normally exposes a limited set of diagnostic parameters.

Practical track use

The Solo 2 DL brings lap display, position, motion and vehicle channels into one recording clock, reducing the synchronisation problems of separate loggers. Camera video is still separate unless an integrated AiM camera workflow is used.

Best for

  • Club racers and track-day drivers who need ECU channels alongside GPS.
  • Predictive timing and post-session analysis in the AiM ecosystem.
  • Installations where a supported ECU connection can be wired safely.

Limitations

  • More installation and configuration work than a battery GNSS receiver.
  • Channel availability is vehicle and protocol dependent.
  • Vendor software and formats add ecosystem commitment.
